Pontresina - first choice for explorers and connoisseurs
Wildly romantic, sunny and sheltered from the wind: High-alpine Pontresina is a southern Eldorado for explorers and connoisseurs. Situated at 1,805 metres above sea level, the legendary glacier and mountaineering village is located in the Upper Engadin side valley Val Bernina. Very close to the Bernina massif with Piz Palü and Piz Bernina. At 4,049 metres above sea level, the latter is the highest peak in the Eastern Alps. The longest village promenade in the Engadin delights visitors with its inviting promenade ambience. The elegance of Alpine grand hotels from the Belle Époque and cosmopolitan hospitality still tempt you to dream even in modern Pontresina.

Adventure trail whitewater gorge Ova da Bernina
You can start the adventure trail at any point and walk in either direction. We recommend starting with the impressive canyon skywalk at Plazza Bernina and then exploring the other exciting spots along Via da Mulin. Peer down into the depths of the gorge and experience the raw, natural power of the water. Then turn right over the Surovas bridge, where you'll enter the enchanting Taiswald, a magical forest of Swiss stone pines and larches set in a unique landscape.

Cascada da Bernina
Waterfall trail «Cascada da Bernina». Translated from Romansh, the word «Cascada» means waterfall. Because the mountain stream «Ova da Bernina» plunges about two hundred vertical meters down to the valley floor. Besides the roaring spectacle, visitors can also expect technical pioneering achievements.

Indulgence along the promenade
Crunchy walnut pieces are surrounded by the finest caramel and fresh cream, covered in buttery, golden-brown shortcrust pastry. The caramel flavor is intense, while the nuts provide a wonderful texture.
Legends in the Bernina Glacier region
On a hike to the Boval Hut in the Engadine, I heard the tragic story that explains the origin of the name Munt Pers as well as a moving tale that brought the ghosts of the past to life.
