Sixteen carefully-compiled information boards give you a wealth of interesting facts about the Bernina Line’s first century of existence. Starting from the railway station at Pontresina or Surovas, the historical trail runs through the beautiful forest of Taiswald. The well-presented boards provide information on the railway itself and its historical background, from early times right up to the present days. Rare facts and documents, interesting information and stories of events both happy and tragic all enliven your walk (walking time: 20 min.).
There are information boards at Pontresina railway station, Punt’ota and Surovas. A description can be found at the information point in Pontresina, in Rondo and at the station ticket office. The 100 years of the Bernina Line project has been the work of Pontresina secondary-school students aged 13 to 16. The themed notice boards on the line’s history, technology and tourist attractions are the fruit of this joint project work. All texts are in German and Romansh, the two languages that local children learn at school. The railway historical trail has been open, as part of the anniversary celebrations, since 5 July 2010. It is designed to be of interest to young and old and locals and visitors alike, and is to form part of the Bernina Line over the next three years.
