Pontresina's indoor swimming pool was designed by architect H. P. Menn (Chur). It was completed on behalf of Pontresina Municipality in 1969. The wooden ceiling caught fire in 1990, and the building then had to be refurbished.
The process of planning the extension and renovation of the indoor pool began on 8 September, 2003. The project was presented to voters on 31 March 2005, and Pontresina's municipal assembly voted unanimously in favour of the project on 12 April. The indoor pool was renovated and extended for 13 675 million francs (planning credit).
During the construction period, the municipality employed a building commission. The construction work was carried out by the general contractor Unirenova, an enterprise of Karl Steiner AG in St. Moritz. CSF Consulting for Sport and Leisure Facilities, Schaffhausen, assumed responsibility as general planner (architect).
Ground was first broken for the initial construction phase on 2 May 2006. The new Bellavita Spa wellness centre was opened on 2 June 2007.
Renovation and extension of the existing indoor pool were initiated in the spring of 2007 (75m-Blackhole slide, children's play zone with water play garden, 34°C outdoor swimming pool, etc.). The new indoor pool, now known as the Bellavita Pool, was opened on 15 December 2007.
At the municipal assembly on 10 June 2009, the assembly took note of the project accounts which closed with additional costs (price increase, access systems, further credit, restaurant) of 770 000 francs.
