Val Poschiavo is the most southerly of the 150 valleys in Graubünden. Only 25 km south of the Bernina Pass as the crow flies, Valtellina has a Mediterranean ambience and one of Switzerland's most diverse landscapes. Between the glaciers and vineyards, appreciative visitors can discover in the Val Poschiavo a small and untouched holiday paradise which perfectly reflects the culture of the valley and offers natural regional produce, genuine hospitality, and unforgettable experiences at one with nature.
Upper Poschiavo never fails to fascinate visitors with its light. Its unique, natural Alpine landscape, which constantly changes with the seasons, offers rewarding excursion destinations of stunning beauty and diversity. The simple guesthouses are the ideal starting point for hikes to the Cavaglia glacier mills, the Val di Campo nature reserve and the magnificent Sassal Masone vantage point. Along the innovative "eco-energy" path, there is a great deal to discover about the world of electricity and renewable energy sources. Visitors can also enjoy the thrill of taking the tunnel train down the mountain.
Poschiavo – also known as Borgo – has a surprise in store – a centre taken straight from a picture book. Its streets are narrow and picturesque; its buildings are well maintained and historically important. Poschiavo's fascinating southern-style urban trains are to be found nowhere else in Graubünden and are outlined clearly against the ever-present backdrop of the Alps. The capital, with its stately patrician houses, is ideal for a gentle stroll and invites you to discover local gastronomy and culture.
The lake in Le Prese affords an enchanting panorama as well as incomparable peace and quiet in winter and summer alike. A range of sporting and recreational activities attract visitors to Lake Poschiavo, and the lake itself is an Eldora do for anglers, sailors and windsurfers.
The traditional cuisine of Poschiavo includes various dishes made with rye, wheat and buckwheat flour, milk and dairy products, potatoes, vegetables and fruit, meat and venison, wine produced in the Valtellina valley by the Poschiavo winegrowers, as well as herbs, honey and, last but not least, desserts made with local ingredients.
