A short hike and you are in the middle of the high alpine mountain world. On the Fuorcla Surlej you have a clear view of the only four-thousand-metre peak in Graubünden, the Piz Bernina (4049m).

From the Murtèl middle station, a 45-minute trail leads to Fuorcla Surlej. The trail is quite wide at first and only climbs gently. Depending on the amount of snow, it is possible that a snowfield will have to be traversed even in July. The last ascent is a tough one with a few hairpin bends. But it is worth the effort: at the top of the Fuorcla (Romansh for mountain crossing), a beautiful view opens up into Val Roseg, onto the mighty Piz Bernina with the striking Bianco ridge, the Piz Roseg and the glacier world. The mountain panorama is reflected in the small mountain lake. From the sun terrace of the Fuorcla Surlej mountain hut you can enjoy the mountain world in comfort. Take the same path back to the Murtèl middle station, from where the cable car takes you to the Surlej valley station.
