The local mountain bike route Bernina Express has taken its name from the legendary train of the Rhaetian Railway that travels over the Bernina Pass, and is as varied as it is inspiring. The return journey from Poschiavo by train is part of this tour, which connects the high Engadin valley with the southern Valposchiavo.

From Samedan, the route leads along the Bernina Valley through uniquely beautiful landscapes, which again and again offer views of the impressive glaciers of the Bernina massif. At the top of the pass, it passes Lago Bianco on the left before the descent down to Valposchiavo begins. After only a few metres of descent, you can feel and smell the southern climate and the changed vegetation. The terrace of the Belvedere restaurant or the buffet of the Alp Grüm railway station invite you to take a break and enjoy a drink.
From Cavaglia you can follow the signposted route, which leads along gravel and asphalt roads, or choose the more technically demanding variant along the railway line and the old path.
On the railway journey from Poschiavo to the Bernina Pass you can get an impression of the pioneering spirit of the people who built this route over 100 years ago. If possible, it is worth taking a seat in an open car.

The flowing descent from the Bernina Pass to Pontresina is the crowning glory of this varied tour. By the way: in God Chapütschöl, Pontresina has taken the opportunity to run the route for the ascent and descent on separate paths. While the downhill trail leads down into the valley over rhythmic waves and fluid local curves, the uphill trail winds its way through the picturesque forest over constant changes of direction and climbs of varying steepness. It is the first uphill trail in the Engadin that has been specifically adapted for uphill riding.
