Wide open views towards the Bernina Massif and its four thousand metre peaks, plunging views down to the lake plateau below, and soaring flights of intellectual fancy along the Philosophers’ Trail all await snowshoe hikers on the popular Engadin panoramic mountain of Muottas Muragl.
The snowshoe hiking trail is suitable for beginners, too. Initially, the signposted route takes you along the Philosophers’ Trail on the Muottas Muragl mountain ridge. This is where you might come across a sign that reads, ‘In youth all one’s thoughts belong to love; later in life, all one’s love belongs to thoughts’. Besides this quote by Albert Einstein there are nine other signposts with quotes by famous thinkers such as Socrates and Sartre to show you the way.
After this intellectual flight of fancy, the focus returns to the panoramic views. Following the arête of Val Champagna with its wonderful views, you reach the plain of Plaun dals Müls. By now you have covered half the distance. The return leg takes you through the Val Muragl back to the mountain hotel, with the vista of the Bernina Range and the frozen lake plateau of the Engadin ahead of you.
