We are pleased to be able to offer many free tours and experiences for our guests.

Ibex in Pontresina

Dozens of ibex only a stone throw away from you, grazing on the pastures right at the edge of the village. Something you can only experience in Pontresina. Discover the ibex with a local guide.

  • Ibex viewing: every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 21st April until 6 June 2020
  • Guide: Christine Salis, BWL certified hiking guide and Marco Salis, mountain guide and hunter
  • Necessary equipment: hiking boots, rain protection
  • Duration: 2-3 h
  • Meeting point: 4 pm at congress centre Pontresina
  • Fee: free of charge, groups on request

The guided ibex tours do not take place at the moment.

Marmot and Ibex Excursion

The Albris region above Pontresina is known for its variety of Alpine animals and plants. Particularly impressive are the marmots, chamois and the largest colony of ibex in Switzerland. An expert guide will accompany you on this summer season excursion to Val Languard.

  • Availability: 12 June to 9 October 2020, every Friday
  • Guide: Christine Salis, BWL certified hiking guide and Marco Salis, mountain guide and hunter
  • Meeting point: 9 am at the valley station of the Alp Languard chairlift, return approx. 16pm
  • Duration: All day tour, walking time approx. 4.5 hours.
  • Altitude difference: up to 600m
  • Equipment: good hiking shoes, rain protection, lunch, possibly binoculars and photographic equipment
  • Fee: Free of charge (chairlift ride not included)
  • Insurance: Responsibility of the participants

Wildlife watching in Val Roseg

The Roseg Valley is known for its coniferous forests, rushing streams and rich fauna. Observe the animals in the early morning and learn more about their behaviour during the rutting season.

  • Dates: 19 and 26 August / 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23th September 2020
  • Management: Christine Salis, BWL certified hiking guide and Marco Salis, mountain guide and hunter
  • Meeting point: 6.30 a.m. at the Rusellas car park, return approx. 9.00 a.m.
  • Duration: approx. 2.5 hours, of which pure marching time 1.5 hours.
  • Height difference: approx. 50 m
  • Equipment: hiking boots, rain protection, binoculars
  • Insurance: is the responsibility of the participants
  • Costs: free of charge
  • Number of participants: at least 3 participants required for the event

Guided Museum Tour

Let us guide you through the venerable Museum Alpin. The tour gives you the opportunity to ask questions directly and learn a bit more.

  • Date: every second week on Fridays, from December 2nd to April 9th / July 9th to September 17th 2020
  • Time: from 5.30 to 6.30 pm
  • Fee: CHF 13.-

Village Tour Pontresina

During the village tour, you will learn fascinating facts about the solid Engadine houses and their sgraffiti, about culture, language, and the precious frescoes in the mountain church St. Maria.

  • Winter Season: From 18th December to 15th April 2020. Every Wednesday, December to January 14:15 to 15:30 and February to April 15:15 to 16.30.
    Summer Season: From 10th June to 7th October 2020. Every Wednesday at 15.30.
  • Meeting point: in front of the Pontresina Tourist Information (Convention- and Culture Centre)
  • Duration: Approx. 1.5 hrs
  • Equipment: comfortable shoes
  • Guides: local guides
  • Fee: free for individual guests. Group rates upon request. The village tour can be booked as a private tour (for max. 25 persons) for CHF 120.-

Tip: take the tour of Sta. Maria Church after the village tour and learn about the frescoes.

Church Tour St. Maria

The Church of St. Maria is one of the most precious sacred buildings of Grisons. The burial church was built in the 11th century and features exposed paintings and frescoes from the 13th and 15th century. During the season free tours are available. The church can be visited without a guide, however, photography is not permitted.

  • Guided tours in winter: from December 18th to April 15th, every Wednesday. December to January at 15.30 and February to April 16:30
    Guided tours in summer: from 10th June to 7th October, every Wednesday, in July and August also on fridays

Cavaglia Glacier Garden

A jewel of nature, the moulins of Giardino dei Ghiacciai di Cavaglia. The moulins, also known as "pots of giants" were shaped by the Palü Glacier. For millennia, glacier water, rubble, and gravel have cut into the hard rock and ground huge holes into the ground - an outstanding natural phenomenon. The Glacier Garden is open from May to October.

  • Availability: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday from May to October
  • Meeting point: 14:00 at Cavaglia station
  • Duration: approximately 90 minutes
  • Equipment: Hiking shoes
  • Insurance: Responsibility of the participants
  • Fee: Free of charge upon presentation of your Pontresina guest card; without card: CHF 10.- / CHF 5.- (excluding train ticket)
