Alpine Dairy Morteratsch

Half a century after the last cheese left the Alp Nova, the Pontresina Dairy is active once again. Here at the Alpine Dairy Morteratsch, cheese lovers can get a first-hand glimpse of traditional cheesemaking. Those wishing to participate in the Alpine brunch can register up until the day prior. The Alpine Dairy Morteratsch is open daily from early July to early October, 9:00-17:00, and is located at Morteratsch Railway Station, 5 km outside Pontresina.

Beach volleyball

The beach volleyball courts feature a backdrop not of ocean or beach – but majestic, awe-inspiring high mountain peaks, a raging glacier river, and fragrant larch forests. At the Cuntschett sports ground, near Pontresina train station, two courts are available, each equipped with official tour sand. Important: After a volleyball game, the courts must be raked and covered. The volleyball courts cannot be reserved. If you do not have your own ball, you can purchase one at the Flying Cycle sports shop.

To play boccia, you only need two things: balls and a bowling green. Both are available free of charge at the Sportpavillon, next to the tennis courts. A set of four Boccia balls can be borrowed for a deposit of CHF 50.- at the Sportpavillon restaurant from 11.30 a.m.

Bernina Glaciers

The Bernina region between Morteratsch and Cavaglia has always impressed its visitors with its stunning beauty. The focus is on the eternal ice, boasting unique views over the Bernina Range from the Diavolezza mountain station, the easy access to Morteratsch Glacier over the theme trail, and the fascinating Moulins in Cavaglia. These highlights are interconnected and easily accessible with the spectacular, Bernina line of the Rhaetian Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Football and sports field

At the Cuntschett sports ground near Pontresina Railway Station, you will find a sports area with a football field. The field is public and cannot be reserved. Toilets and showers can be used at the cross-country ski centre.

Pontresina does not have its own golf course. No big deal, because with three golf courses and 45 holes, the Engadine St. Moritz resort is among the most prestigious golf destinations in the Alps. Golfers can experience tee time against a stunning high Alpine mountain backdrop.

Adrenaline levels climb as the pilot calmly prepares everything for takeoff. A little later, the glider is floating effortlessly, high above the Engadine lakes. A healthy physical condition and body weight between 30 and 110 kg are the requirements for a tandem flight. The launching sites are weather- and season-dependent, varying between Muottas Muragl, Alp Languard, Diavolezza, Corvatsch, or a takeoff site in the adjacent valleys.

Helicopter flights

Hop aboard and marvel at the beautiful landscape of the Engadin from aboard a helicopter. Around the Bernina, very close to the Biancograt, you can admire the impressive glaciers from above, take in the seascape from a different angle, and hover right up close to the Bergell granite before touching down again on firm ground. Experience a helicopter flight. The route is up to you.

Carriage rides

A carriage ride to Stazerwald or into the Roseg Valley is not only for romantics. Nestled under blankets and furs, it is the perfect way to soak up the beautiful landscape. Relax. The meeting point is at Pontresina Station – or order your carriage to pick you up right in front of your hotel. All information can be found in the Info-Flyer carriage rides in Pontresina.

Sunbathing on Crast'Ota

Above Pontresina on the way to the lower Schafberg lies the sunny plateau Crast'Ota. Back in the day, when patients suffering from lung disease were sent to Pontresina for its stimulating climate, the sun terrace was the ideal venue to relax and regain strength. Even today, guests and locals enjoy the sunny winter days on the sun terrace of the Crast'Ota with panoramic views of Rosegtal and the surrounding mountain peaks. And the best: sun loungers and fleece blankets are provided free of charge by the municipality of Pontresina.

Equestrian sports

If you’re keen to explore the valley on horseback – whether you are a longstanding horse rider, a horse owner or not, a beginner or intermediary rider, Pontresina and the Engadine offer a wide range of idyllic riding trails and equestrian centres. Day rides and multiple day rides, riding lessons in riding grounds, and accommodation possibilities for your own horse are all on offer.
