Cross-country skiing in Pontresina, the Engadine

Pontresina is something of a nirvana for cross-country skiers. No surprise there: 220 kilometres of trails stretch around the Upper Engadine lakes and through the side valleys, enabling guests to train on the Engadine Ski Marathon route, to test their own limits on racing trails, or to complete an additional training session on the illuminated night trail Cuntschett at the cross-country skiing centre. During the season, it is illuminated daily from 17:00-21:00. Devoted cross-country skiing lovers extend their season into fall and spring on the Alp Bond: From the beginning of November and mid-March, a 7–10 km loop is groomed at the Bernina Pass. It takes you along the RhB tracks of the famous Bernina Express. At the end of November, the next cross-country season opens with the pre-season trail (a 3.3 km long, artificially snowed loop-trail: Cuntschett), temperature permitting.

Engadine Ski Marathon as the highlight of the cross-country season

Since 1969, the Engadine Ski Marathon takes place on the second Sunday in March. Everything starts with the women's race a week before the actual event: Between Samedan and S-chanf approximately 1,000 women participate in the Women's Run over a distance of 17 kilometres, the prelude to the Engadine Ski Marathon Week. During the Engadine Ski Marathon, around 13,000 participants venture on the 42-km route between Maloja and S-chanf or the half-marathon route from Maloja to Pontresina.
