Behind the Scenes: The team at the finishing area

The FIS Freestyle World Championships 2025 in the Engadin are not only a highlight for the athletes but also for the invisible heroes behind the scenes. A central role is played by the team at the finish line, responsible for the construction and maintenance of the finish area required during the event.

"We take care of the entire setup—from the nets, mats, and walls to the backboards. Everything has to be perfectly positioned so that the competitions run smoothly," explains Swen, the team leader. But the work doesn't end after the initial setup: Every day, sections of the nets and walls in the finish area are dismantled in the evening and reassembled in the morning so that Carlo, the halfpipe shaper, can take his machine into the pipe to prepare it for the next day.

During the competitions, the team ensures that everything functions properly, even in emergencies. Should an incident occur in the halfpipe, the team reacts quickly to immediately adapt the infrastructure and ensure the safety of the athletes and spectators.

The team consists of four permanent members, who are supported by additional helpers to handle the enormous workload. "Thanks to our experienced collaboration, the setup is quick and efficient. However, depending on the weather conditions, unforeseen challenges can arise," says Swen.

Although he performs this important task part-time, his experience from his main job is invaluable. As the management of a company specializing in conservatories and shading systems, he acquired the planning skills necessary to successfully master the complex logistical challenges of the World Championships. "The ability to plan complex projects and work as a team is crucial for responding quickly and effectively in stressful situations," says the finish area manager.

Thanks to the dedicated team and perfect infrastructure, the athletes can fully concentrate on their competition, while the smooth running behind the scenes ensures the success of the 2025 FIS Freestyle World Championships in the Engadin. The media team can confirm the efficiency of Swen's group: the mixed zone in the finish area was set up quickly and competently.
