Camerata Pontresina

Camerata Pontresina im Engadin
Pontresina Chamber Orchestra

It's Wednesday morning on a cloudless day at the end of July. The air in the Taiswald (Tais Forest) is still fresh, but the sun's rays are already dancing through the conifers while the birds chirp and the squirrels scurry nimbly along the hiking trails. It's 10:58 a.m. and the concert is about to begin. And then you hear the first sounds… But is that the theme song from «Pirates of the Caribbean»?

A breath of fresh air for old sheet music

It is not uncommon for music to fill the Taiswald near Pontresina with life. In this forest, refreshing sounds caress you every morning in summer. This combination of music and nature creates a unique experience that touches both the heart and the senses. The first performances of the former spa orchestra date back to 1910. The Pontresina Spa Orchestra survived together with the St. Moritz Salon Orchestra and is today one of the few existing European salon orchestras. In 1984, flautist Dr. Jürg H. Frei took over the direction and modernized the repertoire with new interpretations and experiments, relying on a familiar working atmosphere and artistic complicity. After more than 30 years, he has handed over his job. He has achieved incredible things in all these years. Responsible for both the artistic and administrative sides of the overall arrangement, he alone organized over 200 concerts at three venues, all of which were perfectly coordinated. And this season after season.
