Hiking tips: on the trail of the eternal ice

In Pontresina, the glaciers are virtually at your doorstep. One of them is easily accessible via a 50-minute walk from Morteratsch Station. From there, the glacier trail Morteratsch leads guests to the tongue of the third-longest glacier in the eastern Alps. On the way there, 16 breakpoints provide the perfect opportunity to learn a few facts about the retreat of the Morteratsch Glacier and the mysterious life in its moraine. For those who prefer to venture even higher, a winter hike to the Saas Queder (3,066 metres above sea level) is highly recommended.
From the Diavolezza mountain station, a marked and secured trail leads you there. Appropriate footwear is required. Once you reach your destination, you will be rewarded for your efforts with breathtaking views of the Bernina Range and the Pers Glacier.

Winter walk into the Val Roseg

Guests in Pontresina should definitely not miss a winter walk into the car-free Val Roseg. With a little luck, you might even spot chamois and deer. At the end of the trail lies the Roseg glacier restaurant, famous for its gorgeous dessert buffet. Upon request, you can make the trip back in the comfort of a horse-drawn carriage.
